About the position

Hogan Lovells US LLP is seeking a patent agent or associate to join its Intellectual Property practice, focusing on life sciences patent preparation and prosecution. The role requires at least 2 years of relevant experience and an advanced degree in a related field, with a preference for a Ph.D. The position is available in multiple office locations including Boston, Houston, Louisville, and Washington D.C.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and prosecute life sciences patents.
  • Conduct patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Draft patent applications and responses to office actions.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams on patent strategy.
  • Stay updated on relevant legal and scientific developments.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in life sciences patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Advanced degree in chemistry, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, chemical engineering, or a related field (Ph.D. preferred).
  • Excellent writing skills and strong academic credentials.
  • Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school and membership in the Bar in the United States.

  • Experience in a law firm environment.
  • Familiarity with patent litigation processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
