About The Position

The IP Patent Paralegal position at Direct Talent Solutions in Grand Rapids, MI, is a full-time role focused on providing legal support for patent matters. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and Paralegal certification preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in patent matters.
  • Familiarity with U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, renewals, and maintenance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and docketing software (e.g., Innovation, PATTSY, or similar).
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask under pressure.
  • High attention to detail and ability to follow through on projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to adopt new research tools and practice management software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support for patent-related tasks.
  • Gather preliminary technical information for patent assessments.
  • Monitor deadlines for domestic and foreign patent activities.
  • Assist in maintaining and protecting domestic and foreign patents.
  • Support docketing of U.S. and international patent matters.
  • Coordinate domestic and international filings with relevant patent offices and foreign law firms.
  • Maintain docket systems to track deadlines, including renewals, oppositions, PCT requirements, and annuity payments.
  • Prepare and file documents with U.S. and foreign patent offices.
  • Prepare assignments and correspondence for clients.
  • Prepare status reports for attorneys and clients.
  • Review and respond to correspondence from foreign associates.
  • Research and compile information related to national and international patent rights, including searches in patent databases and legal research platforms.
  • Obtain legalizations, certifications, and other required documentation.
