About the position

As an IP Patent Paralegal at DLA Piper, you will play a crucial role in supporting attorneys with a variety of substantive case-related duties. Under the supervision of attorneys, you will be responsible for preparing drafts of legal documents and correspondence for attorney review, as well as compiling, analyzing, and summarizing information pertinent to cases. Your role will also involve coordinating efforts between attorneys, clients, outside legal counsel, opposing legal counsel, and other parties, ensuring that all communications and documentation are handled efficiently and effectively. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing you to work from either the Philadelphia or Pittsburgh office while also providing flexibility for remote work. You will be expected to complete standard U.S. trademark and patent application filings, assist with foreign filing programs, and handle assignments related to U.S. registrations. Keeping clients informed about the status of their marks and patents will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will managing data rooms and matter files to ensure that all information is organized and accessible. In this fast-paced environment, you will need to demonstrate excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to interact with various stakeholders, including attorneys and clients. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential, as you will be managing large volumes of work associated with each matter. Your ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines will be critical to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Completes standard U.S. trademark and patent application filings.
  • Completes individual or limited group foreign filing programs, including legalization of documents.
  • Assists with supervised prosecution work on all U.S. and foreign applications.
  • Handles assignments and post registration filings for U.S. registrations.
  • Handles U.S. filings for foreign based clients.
  • Keeps clients apprised of the status of marks and patents.
  • Manages data rooms and matter files.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or a Paralegal certificate.
  • Must meet the California Paralegal Requirements.
  • 1 year of experience depending on the needs of the practice group; position may require up to five years of Paralegal experience.
  • Strong skills in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience with legal software such as Relativity, LexisNexis, Westlaw or similar application required.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required to handle large volumes of work.
