About the position

The IP Trademark, Copyright, & Advertising (TCA) Operations Manager at Cooley LLP is responsible for overseeing all aspects of TCA operations within the IP Services team. This role focuses on driving technological and process innovation, enhancing operational efficiency, and mitigating risks while ensuring exceptional client service. The manager will collaborate with various departments, supervise docketing specialists, and lead initiatives to improve practice management and service offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with TCA Practice Group Leadership to implement technology solutions for operational efficiency.
  • Review processes and systems supporting the TCA practice, identifying issues and proposing improvements.
  • Monitor and recommend materials and resources to enhance practice management.
  • Interface with other firm departments to resolve problems and increase efficiencies.
  • Liaise with USPTO on matters related to system outages and rule changes.
  • Supervise and mentor IP Docketing Specialists, ensuring quality checks and data audits.
  • Maintain communication with timekeepers to gather feedback on docketing quality.
  • Propose workflow improvements for the docketing process.
  • Lead data integrity projects across IP docketing software and other systems.
  • Ensure team members develop necessary skills and knowledge for their roles.
  • Establish key metrics and reports to highlight team performance.
  • Direct engagement with TCA lawyers and paralegals to ensure effective client service.
  • Drive functions of the TCA Best Practices Committee (BPC) and coordinate implementation of policies.
  • Oversee daily operations of local office IP Services, ensuring effective group-wide services.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a Trademark related role.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience in docket system utilization and data management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and iManage.
  • Ability to work extended hours and travel as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Supervisory experience in a professional services or law firm environment.
  • Previous law firm experience.
  • Experience researching IP status in PTO databases.
