About the position
The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) position is part of the Supported Employment Program at Pathway & Community, located in Tuscaloosa, AL. This part-time role requires working Monday through Thursday, with hours from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm and 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. The CPS will support individuals with mental illness in achieving their employment goals, utilizing their personal experiences to foster recovery and self-advocacy among recipients. The role involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at promoting independence and community integration for individuals seeking employment.
Responsibilities
- Support recipients of IPS-SEP in their goals of obtaining employment.
- Attend meetings with recipients, promoting self-determination and recovery.
- Assist recipients in goal planning and development of career profiles.
- Educate recipients on wellness management strategies.
- Provide resources and teach transportation skills.
- Model self-advocacy skills for addressing disclosure issues.
- Assist recipients in obtaining information about their benefits.
- Engage recipients in other programs and services to encourage employment.
- Assist in overcoming barriers to employment and addressing workplace challenges.
- Document appropriate information in recipient's records promptly and accurately.
Requirements
- Must be a present or past consumer of mental health services.
- Willingness to obtain Peer Specialist Certification from Alabama Department of Mental Health required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
