About the position

The IPTV Network Engineer will be responsible for providing video teleconferencing, implementation, and maintenance support for Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) initiatives within a government agency. This role involves managing and overseeing audio-visual integrators and employees on video teleconferencing projects, ensuring that all aspects of project design and engineering are executed effectively. The engineer will be tasked with creating, maintaining, and implementing video engineering standards, which are crucial for the success of the projects undertaken. The position requires a hands-on approach, including designing, engineering, installation, troubleshooting, repairing, testing, supporting conferences, and monitoring video teleconferencing systems. The selected candidate will comply with all Department of Defense (DoD) guidance and policies related to video teleconferencing project engineering and design. This includes the installation, configuration, and management of Cisco IP systems to facilitate real-time conference scheduling, bridge management, and connectivity support for a global IP and ISDN video teleconferencing network. The engineer will also be responsible for configuring and testing new technologies to enhance existing systems and pioneering new systems. The role may involve serving as a team lead or assisting the team lead in managing tasks effectively. This position is based in Washington, DC, and candidates must either currently reside in the area or be willing to relocate. It is important to note that no relocation assistance is provided for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide video teleconferencing, implementation, and maintenance support for IPTV initiatives.
  • Manage and oversee audio-visual integrators and employees on video teleconferencing projects.
  • Lead new/upgraded video teleconferencing projects in project design and engineering.
  • Create, maintain, and implement video engineering standards.
  • Design, engineer, install, troubleshoot, repair, test, support conferences, and monitor video teleconferencing systems.
  • Comply with DoD guidance and policies in VTC project engineering and design.
  • Install, configure, and manage Cisco IP systems for real-time conference scheduling and bridge management.
  • Configure and test new technology to enhance current systems and pioneer new systems.
  • Serve as team lead or assist team lead for task management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and at least 11 years of related experience.
  • Current Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
  • Current Security certification.
  • Experience with Cisco/Tandberg MCUs, Video Communications Server, ISDN Gatekeeper, and endpoint products.
  • Experience with larger enterprise IP networks and related networking equipment.
  • Knowledge of unicast and multicast video traffic.
  • Knowledge of DoD policies and procedures regarding Cisco VTC Systems.
  • Thorough understanding of network technologies (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, Firewalls, Switches) and protocols (IPv4/IPv6, OSPF, BGP, PIM, STP, ERPS).
  • Ability to provide technical and operational guidance for DoD customers.
  • Ability to thrive in a high OPTEMPO environment and handle daily requirements.
  • Experience with Wide Area Networks, IP networks, and BoIP.
  • Routing and switching experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field.
  • Network certifications in accordance with DOD 8570 Instruction.
  • Experience with test equipment: O-scope, Fireberd, transmission test sets.
  • Capable of systems analysis with highly complex technologies.
  • Familiarity with patch panels.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications fundamentals.
  • Ability to be self-reliant.
  • Capability to perform essential technical maintenance activities without direct supervision.
  • Ability to professionally interact with high-level military officers and civilian officials.
  • Quality assurance experience with new and upgraded telecommunications systems.
  • Trainer / training experience.
  • Positive service-oriented attitude.
  • Military experience / knowledge of customs and courtesies.
  • Experience with the development and presentation of briefings.
  • Microsoft certification - MCSA, MCP, MCS.
