About the position

The IS Business Intelligence Data Architect plays a crucial role in overseeing and developing MedStar Health's Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), data marts, and data pipelines. This position is responsible for designing and implementing database and BI solutions that provide valuable insights to the business. The architect collaborates with stakeholders to document requirements and translates them into technical specifications, while also managing data warehouse operations and optimizing the EDW platform.

Responsibilities

• Assist in architectural oversight and development for MedStar Health's Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), data marts, and data pipelines.
• Design and implement database and BI solutions to derive valuable insights for the business.
• Document requirements for data marts, dashboards, and data extracts, translating them into technical design specifications.
• Manage data warehouse data pipelines and optimize the EDW platform in collaboration with the EDW vendor.
• Participate in cross-functional activities related to data governance, standardization of data, and utilization of BI reports.
• Create and maintain accurate design documentation for new projects and existing reporting artifacts.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the EDW metadata repository.
• Assist in the operations and maintenance of the EDW data pipelines, including scheduling and monitoring execution.
• Lead multiple design/development projects, delivering cohesive data solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
• Establish architectural guidelines for the data and analytics environment, applying them to EDW and reporting projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
• 5-7 years of experience in data integration, database design, and development required.
• 3-4 years of experience in BI reporting and analysis, with advanced skills in BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI required.
• 1-2 years of knowledge and experience with statistical analysis and modeling required.
• Experience with data warehousing models and designing processes for complex data structures required.
• Ability to write complex SQL queries and translate ambiguous concepts into tangible ideas.

Nice-to-haves

• Advanced knowledge and skill in SQL, Python, and Tableau.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and PowerPoint.
