About the position

The ISD Deputy Director, Operations is a key leadership role within the Information Services Division of the City of Eugene. This position is responsible for managing and overseeing daily operations, directing a team of IT professionals, and assisting the Director in the management of IT functions and service delivery to city users. The Deputy Director will collaborate closely with the Director to enhance the technology portfolio and ensure the stability, reliability, and performance of mission-critical services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee daily operations within the Information Services Division.
  • Direct and supervise a staff of IT professionals.
  • Assist the Director in managing IT functions and service delivery.
  • Develop strategic enhancements to the technology portfolio.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices for network and system operations.
  • Prepare annual program goals and performance measures.
  • Formulate and implement policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Analyze and recommend plans and solutions to operational processes.
  • Recruit, interview, and select qualified staff.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback.
  • Identify training and professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Assist in preparing and administering the annual budget for the department.
  • Act on behalf of the Director in their absence as directed.
  • Support the introduction of new technology and services for City departments.

Requirements

  • Six years of professional experience in technology administration and management, including three years of supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Ability to obtain ITIL version 3 or 4 certification within 9 months of hiring.
  • Knowledge of PCI, HIPAA, and CJIS compliance standards preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working for a government agency.
  • Experience in government technology.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or CISM certification preferred.
  • Microsoft Certified AZURE Fundamentals or other Microsoft certifications preferred.
  • CCNP Enterprise, CCNA Collaboration, or other CCNA certifications preferred.
