About the position

The ISS ECLSS Support Systems Test Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and improving life support systems aboard the International Space Station (ISS). This role involves collaborating with a team of engineers, chemists, and technicians to support NASA's missions related to Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS). The engineer will focus on troubleshooting issues, enhancing system efficiency, and ensuring safety during testing phases.

Responsibilities

• Maintain life support systems aboard the ISS.
• Discover methodologies for improving ISS ECLSS efficiency.
• Troubleshoot and correct anomalous phenomena aboard the ISS.
• Collaborate with engineers, chemists, and technicians to support NASA.
• Solve problems related to biofilm growth and mitigation.
• Work with project level and flight system engineers to define operational requirements.
• Participate in Test Readiness Reviews (TRR).
• Verify testing procedures with NASA Quality.
• Assist with test planning and media preparation.
• Schedule and coordinate machine shop for parts.

Requirements

• A degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biological Engineering, or a related field is required.
• A degree from an ABET-accredited university is preferred.
• Typically requires a BS with 0 - 5 years of experience.
• Experience with bioreactor systems.
• Experience in biology laboratory teams, with a preference for biofilms.
• Knowledge in microfluidic devices, chemical testing, and water treatments.
• Knowledge of growth curves, spectroscopy, and microscopy.
• Experience with Systems Engineering requirements and risk developments.
• Familiarity with statistics/graphing software (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to review documents and manuscripts.
