About the position
The position involves providing technical mechanical engineering expertise to support various life support systems for space missions, including the ES62 Space Station Carbon Dioxide Removal and the International Space Station Environmental Control Life Support System. The role encompasses system engineering, mechanical design, testing, and troubleshooting of life support systems, ensuring their efficiency and reliability in space environments.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical mechanical engineering expertise for life support systems.
- Support system engineering and mechanical design of specialized test articles and equipment.
- Conduct mechanical structure analysis and testing of development systems.
- Participate in meetings and design reviews related to life support systems.
- Write procedures and track material procurement for projects.
- Interpret and report test results, ensuring compliance with protocols.
Requirements
- A degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
- Typically, a Ph.D. with a minimum of 4 years of experience, a Master's with at least 8 years, or a BS with at least 10 years of experience is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of applicable experience in Aerospace testing and/or test data collection and analysis is required.
- At least 2 years of knowledge of thermal/fluid components, systems, and associated instrumentation is required.
- Experience with the build-up and disassembly of test stands is required.
- Experience in developing test procedures and interpreting post-experimental test data is required.
Nice-to-haves
- Hands-on experience with gaseous and liquid fluid flow systems.
- A working knowledge of LABVIEW.
- A working knowledge of Aerospace flight system component testing.
