About the position

The IT Accessibility Specialist position at the Maryland Department of Information Technology (DoIT) focuses on ensuring compliance with accessibility standards for information technology. This role involves providing technical assistance to state agencies, conducting accessibility testing, and supporting the development and implementation of accessible IT solutions. The specialist will work closely with the State Director of Accessibility and collaborate with various departments to enhance the accessibility of digital services across the state.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to state agencies regarding accessible information technology.
  • Conduct accessibility issue analysis and testing to guide remediation actions.
  • Review accessibility errors from automated testing applications and recommend corrections.
  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of application system corrections or enhancements for accessibility.
  • Review vendor documentation to ensure compliance with state laws and regulations.
  • Develop, review, and update Office of Accessibility documentation and training materials.

Requirements

  • Five years of experience in problem analysis and user support for agency or statewide systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field with specific coursework may substitute for some experience.
  • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Cyber and Information Systems may substitute for some experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of experience conducting manual accessibility testing.
  • Experience working with the disability community.
