About the position

The IT Actuarial Analyst is responsible for managing the entire data science and actuarial pipeline, which includes integrating data, developing statistical models, and automating report distribution. This role supports University Hospitals' initiatives in Population Health and Operational Effectiveness by leading interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance value-based reimbursements for patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the discovery and requirements gathering process with key clinical and business stakeholders to inform analytic plans.
  • Collaboratively co-create the discovery, design, development, deployment, optimization, and maintenance of advanced analytics and data science techniques.
  • Research, design, develop and implement predictive models and advanced analytics to support value-based contracting and population health improvement.
  • Visualize data in creative ways that brings data and insights to life for end-users.
  • Utilize diverse data sources to support UH Clinical Transformation and Operational Effectiveness.
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Evaluate business performance and monitor critical operational measures related to shared savings arrangements and other value-based programs.
  • Maintain actuarial standards of practice and progress towards actuarial credentials.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all policies and standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or related Quantitative discipline.
  • 2+ years working with complex analytic situations, health insurance, or health claims data.
  • Proficiency with SQL/complex SQL queries.
  • Experience with at least 1 advanced programming method (e.g. Python, R).
  • Ability to work independently and creatively solve problems while knowing when to seek help.
  • Optimistic, self-directed performer capable of complex decision making and communication.
  • Capable of turning questions into testable hypotheses and creating statistical models.
  • Gathering and validating requirements, estimating timelines, and predicting challenges in analytic plans.
  • Working knowledge of emerging technology platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Successful progress towards Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation.
  • Experience with healthcare claims data.
  • Experience in data visualization and communicating results to a non-technical audience.

  • Strong understanding and experience in researching and resolving data issues.
  • Ideal candidate will have passed 3 or more actuarial exams.
