About the position

The IT AMI Analyst Intern position at FirstEnergy Service Company offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the field of Advanced Metering Systems. Interns will actively participate in production support and enhancement lifecycle activities, focusing on systems such as the Head-end Collection Engine and Meter Data Management System. This role emphasizes professional development through challenging assignments, on-the-job training, and mentorship, allowing interns to contribute meaningfully to the team while developing their skills in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and participate in the production support and enhancement lifecycle of Advanced Metering systems.
  • Investigate and resolve problems related to Smart Meter Operations.
  • Provide analytical and operational support to business clients.
  • Troubleshoot configuration-related hardware issues with Connected Grid Routers and Industrial Routers.
  • Manage the testing and deployment of patches and software upgrades.
  • Perform system security administration tasks.
  • Collaborate with teammates, vendors, other IT teams, and business clients to resolve issues and correct root causes.
  • Facilitate change requests through their entire lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, construction, testing, and implementation.
  • Adhere to IT SOX controls/procedures for data and application changes.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled full-time in a bachelor's degree program at an accredited university/college focusing on Business Administration, Computer Science, Computer/Management Information Systems, or other technology-related disciplines.
  • Class standing as a rising Junior or Sophomore.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future).

Nice-to-haves

  • PC or server hardware maintenance experience.
  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL, and TeraData).
  • Basic understanding of Structured Query Language (SQL).
  • Experience installing, configuring, or administering applications.
  • Participation in IT software implementation projects or upgrades.
  • Understanding of IT change management and incident management concepts and practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
