The role of the Cloud Financial Operations (FinOps) Analyst at Duke Health is pivotal in collecting and analyzing data to provide financial and operational insights that are critical to the success of the organization. This position focuses heavily on monitoring cloud usage and spending data to identify cost-saving opportunities. The analyst will work closely with a diverse range of stakeholders to foster a culture of cost accountability and awareness regarding cloud consumption. The responsibilities include financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and consumption analysis, which encompasses key performance indicators (KPIs), show back analytics, and capacity management. In terms of strategic activities, the analyst will establish a cost optimization framework that effectively utilizes reserved instances, committed use discounts, and other elements of Duke's cloud subscription agreements. Regular monitoring of resource usage and costs will be essential, along with performing cost analyses and right-sizing resources. The role aims to simplify cloud financial management through automation and orchestration, ensuring that optimization recommendations are processed through the appropriate governance channels for action. Collaboration with finance, operations, and technology teams will be crucial in driving cost optimization strategies and developing a consumer-focused FinOps culture. On the tactical side, the analyst will support the cloud monthly budget and forecast process, managing consumption, showback, and savings in collaboration with DHTS Finance and technical service owners. They will assist stakeholders in understanding and managing their cloud spending based on business needs and budgeted forecasts. Monitoring cloud consumption at a granular level to detect, investigate, and escalate anomalies and unplanned spikes is also a key responsibility. The analyst will analyze, report, and produce meaningful insights from large raw datasets within cloud billing and usage tools, ensuring that cloud infrastructure is utilized efficiently and effectively. Additionally, they will collaborate with DHTS leaders and various data analytics teams to track resource utilization and define strategies for cloud commitment plans. The role also involves designing, developing, and maintaining reports and KPIs that provide detailed usage statistics across the cloud landscape, evaluating data patterns to derive insights, and participating in business case development and cost modeling.
