About the position

The IT Analyst II - System Administrator at Ametek, Inc. is responsible for maintaining the company's desktop and server systems, supporting operations and administrative staff, and ensuring the integrity and availability of data across various platforms. This role involves managing both Windows and Linux environments, implementing security measures, and providing technical support to end-users. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and effective communication with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Windows and Linux Servers including the operating systems, application programs and the physical/virtual infrastructure that runs them.
  • Configure and maintain Windows and MacOS workstations, the application programs as well as hardware infrastructure that runs them.
  • Manage backup of data and ensure integrity and availability of stored data.
  • Ensure all computer systems, peripherals, programs, and applications meet the operational needs of Vision Research and AMETEK.
  • Review monitoring jobs/logs to ensure system performance and availability.
  • Deliver changes using the Change Management process when implementing major and minor software upgrades, patches, and hardware changes.
  • Oversee installation and maintenance of servers' and workstations' hardware and software.
  • Maintain clear communication with customers regarding mutual expectations and monitor customer satisfaction.
  • Without direction, take appropriate action to solve problems or overcome obstacles to achieving results.
  • Maintain and operate software distribution/patching/installation system including development and testing of new application installation procedures.
  • Review and put into action, plans to remediate security and vulnerability scans for all networks and devices.
  • Provide platform support and computing infrastructure as needed for the Manufacturing OT environment.
  • Create and maintain shell scripts.
  • Support the management of the wireless devices connected to the network.
  • Provide technical support, working both over the phone/chat/video with end-users, documenting resolution through a ticketing system.
  • Utilize troubleshooting skills to triage issues with tools running on Windows and Linux systems.
  • Test restore/recovery hardware, software, and procedures.
  • Maintain clear documentation of system(s) and maintenance activity.
  • Ensure Cyber/Security conformance.
  • In conjunction with Information Services Global and local teams, monitor and respond, as necessary, to after-hour information services alarms.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Information Technology, Information Services, Data Processing or related field.
  • 4-year college or vocational degree in Information Services/Computer Science/related field or equivalent technical experience.
  • Experience as a Windows Server Administrator.
  • Experience as or Proficient in Linux Server Administration with competent Command Line scripting.
  • Experience with Virtualization / Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.
  • Knowledgeable of access control across operating systems, file systems, and services.
  • Knowledgeable of system auditing/log analysis processes and tools.
  • Excellent technical documentation skills.
  • Experience in Change Management, Problem Management, and Incident Management.
  • Experience with Windows desktop OS / macOS.
  • Experience with backup, directory services and application and operating system management in a networked environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Shop Floor applications including MES is a plus.
  • Position certifications acquired or in progress (MCSE, CompTIA Server+) is a plus.
