About the position

The IT Analyst/Programmer II position at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is a permanent, full-time role within the Information Technology Services (ITS) department. The primary function of ITS is to provide comprehensive information technology services to various stakeholders, including schools, departments, administrators, staff, and students, particularly those engaged in online and distance education. The overarching goal of ITS is to enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency through the strategic use of technology, thereby improving the teaching, learning, and research processes at the university. In this role, the IT Analyst/Programmer II will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise-level applications, interfaces, automation, and integrations that support the university's mission. The position requires active collaboration with a highly skilled team within the Enterprise Applications and Development Services department, as well as interaction with campus constituents and external vendors. The successful candidate will engage in project-based work, utilizing agile methodologies to ensure the effective delivery of technological solutions that align with the university's strategic goals. The position demands a strong foundation in software development, particularly in database management, with a minimum of three years of relevant experience. The candidate should possess a working knowledge of SQL and Oracle PL/SQL, and familiarity with Unix and Java is preferred. Experience with enterprise-level applications such as Ellucian Banner, Argos, and various software technologies is essential. The role also requires excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, along with strong communication abilities to effectively collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The IT Analyst/Programmer II will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation and support of technology solutions that drive business process improvements and enhance operational efficiencies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and automate necessary outbound and inbound data feeds from and to the ERP system using SQL, PL/SQL, and vendor-supplied APIs.
  • Complete technical tasks related to the implementation, development, maintenance, enhancement, automation, and support of ERP systems and integrations.
  • Serve as a technical resource and support for the Enterprise Applications and Development Services department and campus constituents.
  • Conduct research and troubleshooting to resolve technical issues submitted through the helpdesk system.
  • Ensure appropriate testing is performed and validated in collaboration with technical and functional staff prior to implementing new technology solutions.
  • Collaborate and communicate with users, ITS staff, and vendors to resolve application systems issues.
  • Participate as a contributing member of a team requiring technical expertise for administrative technical solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, Computer Science, or Information Technology from an accredited institution or related experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in applications programming with intermediate to moderately complex database queries.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and Oracle PL/SQL is essential.
  • Familiarity with Unix and Java is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with enterprise-level applications such as Ellucian Banner, Argos, and others is necessary.
  • Strong research, analysis, and critical thinking skills are required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate with various university constituents in both technical and non-technical terms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of Higher Education systems is preferred.
  • Experience with agile methodologies and project lifecycle models is beneficial.
