The IT Analyst Specialist, Business Intelligence (BI) Developer at UVA Medical Center is a pivotal role responsible for leveraging the enterprise's data to design, create, and maintain analyses and BI reports and tools that support clinical, business, and research operations. This position plays a crucial role in fostering data-driven decision-making by providing consultative analytics support to executives and service line leadership, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The BI Developer will lead a team, offering technical advice and guidance to fellow BI developers, thereby significantly contributing to the mission of the BI team. In this role, the BI Developer will participate in cross-functional performance improvement team efforts, ensuring the accuracy and availability of data. They will consult with users at all levels to help solve problems and contribute to impactful organizational projects through expert analysis and presentation of data. Collaboration with operational subject matter experts and stakeholders is essential, as the BI Developer will serve as the lead developer and resident expert for outcomes-related metrics, ensuring accurate metadata and appropriate metric and report development. The position requires the collection of business requirements from stakeholders, designing, coding, validating, deploying, and maintaining the semantic layer and metadata for complex reports and reporting tools. The BI Developer will utilize various tools, including Microsoft SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, SAP Crystal Reports, Epic Reporting Workbench, Extract Framework, Radar Dashboards, and Tableau to build effective BI solutions. Additionally, they will develop code using structured query language (SQL), preferably Microsoft T-SQL, and employ tools such as Microsoft Excel, R, and Minitab for data analysis. The role also involves system administration tasks, including building, testing, and assisting with upgrade/enhancement/patch-related implementation activities. The BI Developer will lead team performance improvement activities, monitor the team work queue, prioritize and assign work, and run team meetings in the absence of the manager. They will participate in governance and Change Control-related activities, keep abreast of new technologies, conduct cost-benefit evaluations, and provide recommendations for potential new technology offerings. Regular guidance and training will be provided to less experienced team members, and the BI Developer will conduct reviews of their work, offering innovative ideas for performance tuning and query optimization. Coaching customers on the use of BI tools and adapting to competing demands and organizational constraints are also key aspects of this role.
