About the position

The Coast Community College District (CCCD) is seeking an IT Applications Developer to join its team. This position is exclusively available to current permanent employees of CCCD. The IT Applications Developer will be responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting web portal-based and database-originated applications. The role involves creating interfaces that present dashboards, pages, forms, and decision support tools, enabling users to navigate and transfer data within integrated database and web portal environments. The developer will also be tasked with ensuring that applications are user-friendly and meet the needs of various stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, and staff. In this professional-level position, the IT Applications Developer will utilize the ITIL Framework and Processes to construct interfaces and applications that can be presented via summary portals, dashboards, and ad hoc decision support tools. The developer will work closely with various departments to analyze, modify, and support applications, ensuring that they are efficient and effective in meeting the district's needs. The role requires a strong understanding of SQL programming, as well as the ability to integrate web portal and database systems with existing data warehouses. Additionally, the developer will be responsible for preparing documentation, facilitating discussions to gather user specifications, and providing training and support to enhance staff capabilities in using the web portal and decision support systems. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, along with three years of experience in web portal and ERP-based applications development. Alternatively, an Associate's degree with six years of relevant experience will also be considered. The position requires specialized knowledge of web design and maintenance, programming languages, and relational database concepts. The developer will be expected to remain current on new technologies and industry trends, presenting innovative solutions to improve user experience and overall web presence.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, analyzes, modifies, and provides support to web portal-based and desktop applications that use integrated databases for information resource.
  • Integrates web portal and database systems and applications with existing data warehouses.
  • Develops interfaces and queries to relational databases for data extraction and compilation.
  • Prepares documentation of applications and modifications to third-party software.
  • Facilitates discussions with administrators, teachers, and staff to identify user specifications and display formats.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of policies for data display and user navigation structures.
  • Participates in determining appropriate data compression techniques and image optimization.
  • Participates on committees advancing web portal and ERP-based technologies and applications.
  • Participates in matters such as systems security, backup, and recovery for systems and applications.
  • Remains current on new technology and industry trends, presenting new ideas and best practices.
  • Provides training and support to enhance staff ability to use web portal and decision support systems.
  • Manages LMS system including integrations and add-on applications.
  • Researches and advocates best practices to improve service delivery to LMS and ERP systems.
  • Defines/gathers requirements, defines test plans, and coordinates project implementation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field and three years of experience with web portal and ERP-based applications development using new technologies.
  • Alternatively, an Associate's degree in Computer Science or a related field, and six years of experience with web development using new web-related technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL programming and scripting languages used by the district.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL Framework and Processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of software browsers, ERP design, and transactions.
  • Knowledge of internet protocols, e.g., TCP/IP.
  • Specialized knowledge of relational database concepts and design techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of object-oriented software development techniques and tools.
  • Advanced technical writing skills to document applications and instructional content.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
