About the position

Ahold Delhaize USA is seeking a Data Product Architect to join our team in Quincy, MA. This role is pivotal in embedding within Data Product teams to support all aspects of data ingestion, data engineering, design, data modeling, and machine learning. The Data Product Architect will guide engineers and analytics teams to ensure that the best decisions are made at every turn, resulting in the production of high-quality data products. The primary focus will be on data modeling, which includes business, logical, and physical modeling, as well as the identification, design, definition, transfer, and access of data. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working with multifaceted stakeholders, planning, designing, deploying, and sustaining both cloud and on-premises data products and solutions. Strong documentation and communication skills are essential, as is a passion for innovation, change, and continuous improvement. The Data Product Architect will lead the analysis, design, and implementation of comprehensive business data products, ensuring that results can be seamlessly expanded to address other business domains. In this role, you will embed with feature teams during early design phases to consult on data, systems architecture, and API design decisions, ensuring consistent system and data models. You will also be responsible for ensuring adherence to proper data design and security for new cloud data platforms and products, as well as documenting data models and schemas into governance systems. The position requires collaboration with Data Science teams to power the machine learning platform and with Solution Architects to design better data products that meet organizational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis, design, and implementation of comprehensive business data products.
  • Embed with feature teams during early design phases to consult on data, systems architecture, and API design decisions.
  • Plan, participate, design, review, and structure data design review sessions.
  • Ensure all key design and compliance decisions are reviewed and approved before implementation.
  • Ensure adherence to proper data design and security for new cloud data platforms and products.
  • Document data models and schemas into governance systems.
  • Create canonical models for APIs, Event Streams, and Data as a Service.
  • Define standards for data quality and create data test and validation plans.
  • Empower Data Product Squads to follow better design paths with automated quality engineering and automation.
  • Represent data products in the creation of enterprise data models and corporate data standards.
  • Stay up to date on relevant technologies and trends to ensure the use of the best data-centric techniques and tools.
  • Manage, coach, develop, and motivate a team of Data, API, and Quality Engineers.
  • Collaborate with Data Science teams to support modeling and serving.
  • Collaborate with Solution Architects to design better data products.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 8 or more years of equivalent experience in relevant technology fields.
  • 5 or more years of experience in an advanced role or technical capacity, leading teams directly or indirectly.
  • 5 or more years of experience guiding, training, or onboarding team members in relevant technologies.
  • Experience designing and solutioning modern data platforms and solutions.
  • Strong experience creating data architecture and data models using tools like ER Studio or ERWIN.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based platforms like Azure Data Stack.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Hands-on experience with Data Streaming technologies like Kafka.
  • Experience with ETL tools, Databricks, SQL, SSAS, and T-SQL.
  • Experience with large scale design, implementation, and operations of OLTP, OLAP, DW, NoSQL, and big data storage technologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Post graduate degree or advanced training in relevant fields.
  • 5 or more years of experience in Agile teams and Product/Platform based operating model.
  • Experience in retail or grocery preferred.
  • Experience with Machine learning frameworks.
  • Cloud Solution Architect or equivalent certification.
  • Hands-on experience with Data Visualization tools like PowerBI or Tableau.
  • Knowledge of DevOps processes and Infrastructure as code fundamentals.
