About the position

The IT Architect - Infrastructure (Construction) position is responsible for establishing and managing an IT construction practice for new building projects and renovations. This role ensures that IT standards are integrated into construction plans, focusing on the design and installation of IT infrastructure, including cabling, equipment, and compliance with the City's Facility IT Standards. The position serves as a liaison between construction divisions and the Houston Information Technology Services (HITS) department, overseeing project management and ensuring adherence to IT standards throughout the construction process.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage an IT construction practice for new building construction and renovation projects.
  • Ensure IT standards are incorporated into construction plans.
  • Facilitate development and updates of design requirements for communications equipment rooms.
  • Design IDF/MDF layouts and requirements for new construction.
  • Determine primary and backup power, HVAC, fire suppression, grounding, and lighting requirements.
  • Develop technology standards in CSI format for major building-related IT systems.
  • Coordinate design reviews at various project stages (30%, 65%, 90%, 100%).
  • Manage inspections, punch lists, and acceptance of constructed IT rooms and assets.
  • Serve as the point person for IT activities on capital projects.
  • Report status, risks, and resource needs to executive leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management and Information Systems, or a closely related field.
  • At least ten years of specialized experience in IT infrastructure systems.
  • Current RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer) certification.

Nice-to-haves
