About the position

The Desktop Support Asset Manager at The Ohio State University is responsible for coordinating procurement and asset management for the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation (OTDI). This role focuses on supporting desktop support assets, ensuring they are properly tagged and tracked, managing inventory, and providing technical assistance to customers. The position requires collaboration with Desktop Support Specialists to resolve software, hardware, and network issues, while also leading less experienced staff and managing complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate procurement and asset management for OTDI and managed IT support customers.
  • Ensure all desktop support assets are properly tagged and tracked in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
  • Maintain standard configurations in-stock for imaging and deployment.
  • Manage new hire and refresh requests, including entering workstation requests and scheduling deployments.
  • Conduct regular audits of stockroom inventory and track budget use for desktop support and hardware refresh.
  • Coordinate the surplus process for reclaiming and retiring desktop support equipment.
  • Provide professional computer support services to OTDI supported customers, resolving software, hardware, and network issues.
  • Support customers both on-site and remotely in a professional manner.
  • Communicate, track, and report computing environment outages.
  • Lead less experienced staff in providing immediate assistance and issue resolution.
  • Act as a team leader for complex projects and assignments associated with the help desk function.
  • Serve as an on-call escalation point.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 4 years of experience supporting desktop computers running Windows, Mac OS, or both in a network environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to maintain organized documentation and information.
  • Professional experience providing customer service.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree in information technology, information management, or a related field.
  • 4-6 years of experience supporting desktop computers running Windows, Mac OS, or both in a network environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience with image management and deployment.
  • Exposure to a variety of commercial and educational productivity applications.
  • Experience with support systems and remote desktop technologies.
  • Professional experience in a university setting.
