About the position

The IT Assistant Director of Cybersecurity at Florida International University plays a crucial role in supporting the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and the IT Security team in managing the university's cybersecurity initiatives. This position is responsible for enhancing the overall cybersecurity posture of the university by developing, implementing, and maintaining security standards and processes. The role involves monitoring and responding to security threats, managing vulnerability assessments, and ensuring compliance with various regulations. The Assistant Director will also lead security initiatives and collaborate with various departments to promote best practices in IT security.

Responsibilities

  • Support the CISO and Associate Director in managing the IT Security Office and Program.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of security standards and processes.
  • Monitor, investigate, and respond to security threats and incidents.
  • Assist in security incident responses, investigations, and reporting.
  • Develop and manage the Information Security Program, aligning projects with strategic goals.
  • Maintain documentation on organizational risks and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee the university's vulnerability management program and collaborate with IT Admins to mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Manage and develop content for IT Security Awareness training and campaigns.
  • Create reports for risk assessments, security assessments, and incidents.
  • Manage and monitor security alerts, escalating or resolving as necessary.
  • Collaborate with other units to address vulnerabilities and investigate security alerts.
  • Develop tools and procedures for security monitoring and provide IT Security guidance.
  • Lead security initiatives and implement technology, processes, and procedures in various security domains.
  • Work with compliance and audit teams to design and implement regulatory compliance practices for IT.
  • Assist with IT security compliance requirements for regulations such as PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and FERPA.
  • Identify and review security control deficiencies, providing recommendations and action plans.
  • Perform essential duties during emergencies and provide 24/7 support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
  • Four years of experience in a related field, including managerial experience.
  • IT security experience with exposure to data, networks, systems, and web applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of security issues, techniques, and implications across computer platforms.
  • Knowledge of IT security governance, risk, and compliance (GRC), auditing, and vendor management.
  • Experience with privacy and compliance issues requiring programmatic information security control.
  • Experience using the MITRE ATT&CK framework for security incident detection and response.
  • Experience working with SIEM solutions.
  • Hands-on experience in security operations, incident response, threat hunting, and forensics.

Nice-to-haves

  • CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CISA, and other industry certifications preferred.
