About the position

The Senior Staff Auditor is responsible for conducting and supervising complex financial, operational, and management audits, including reviews of information technology systems. This role involves applying statistical sampling techniques, analyzing financial data, and ensuring compliance with established audit standards. The auditor will oversee audit projects from planning to report writing, engage with stakeholders, and provide training and evaluation to team members.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and supervise audit projects, including audits of information technology (IT) systems, from planning to report writing.
  • Conduct and supervise audit activities (planning, fieldwork, reporting, etc.) within the established/required timelines using audit procedures necessary to achieve audit objectives and in compliance with the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF).
  • Write, review, and edit audit reports and recommendations based on audit findings.
  • Conduct meetings with key stakeholders to facilitate audits, including but not limited to entrance and exit conferences, process walkthroughs, providing status updates, communicating exceptions and other pertinent information throughout audit projects.
  • Monitor and review audit work of staff supervised and ensure resources are effectively deployed.
  • Supervise and coach team members, providing timely feedback to improve work product.
  • Develop and provide staff training and evaluation.
  • Evaluate internal controls and processes for effectiveness and efficiency and make appropriate recommendations in alignment with BERS' vision and risk appetite.
  • Monitor and report on the implementation of corrective action plans recommended in audit reports.
  • Support the annual risk assessment process and development of the internal audit plan.
  • Determine effective uses of audit software (or other data analysis tools) to execute projects, analyze, examine, validate, and extract data for audit assignments.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and four years of satisfactory full-time experience implementing the provisions of a retirement plan involving the use of mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising professionals implementing the provisions of a retirement plan involving the use of mathematical, statistical, actuarial or accounting computations.
  • An associate degree or 60 credits from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 12 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and six years of satisfactory full-time experience as indicated in "1".
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have 60 credits from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 12 credits in mathematics, statistics, accounting and/or actuarial science and the 18 months of experience in a supervisory, administrative, managerial or executive capacity as described in "1".
