About the position

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) II at Hackensack Meridian Health plays a crucial role in maintaining clinical equipment through the effective implementation of the Medical Equipment Management Plan. This position involves a variety of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of biomedical equipment. While the BMET II may require direction and assistance from more experienced technicians, they are expected to perform routine tasks independently. The role emphasizes a culture of connection and collaboration, where team members support one another and contribute to the overall mission of transforming healthcare and serving the community. In this position, the BMET II demonstrates a basic knowledge of their job functions and is expected to learn from others while also teaching basic skills to new hires or interns. They possess a foundational understanding of electromechanical systems and devices, as well as public safety and regulatory issues relevant to the healthcare environment. The technician is responsible for solving basic customer service issues and has a basic understanding of clinical equipment, including radiological, laboratory, and network medical systems. Additionally, they are familiar with project management terms and methods, which aids in their ability to contribute effectively to the team. The BMET II may be required to travel to various Hackensack Meridian Health facilities, transporting equipment and materials necessary for repairs. Participation in on-call duties may also be required, subject to approval by the Biomed site leader, supervisor, or director. Adherence to organizational competencies and standards of behavior is essential in this role, ensuring that the technician contributes positively to the workplace culture and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of the job, activity or function, needs supervision or mentoring on advanced assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn from others on the job and teach some basic skills to new hires or interns.
  • Possesses basic understanding and skills related to general electromechanical systems and devices.
  • Has a basic understanding of both local and national public safety and regulatory issues.
  • Able to solve basic front-line customer service issues.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of clinical equipment, radiological, laboratory and network medical systems.
  • Has a basic understanding of project management terms and methods.
  • May be required to travel to all Hackensack Meridian Health facilities and transport equipment and/or materials required to facilitate repairs using a personal vehicle if a company vehicle is unavailable.
  • May participate in on-call upon request and approval by Biomed site leader, Biomed Supervisor, and/or Biomed Director.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics or BET with 1 year of experience, or Associate's degree in Electronics or BET with 2 years experience working in Biomedical Engineering, or 4 years experience working in Biomedical Engineering.
  • All skills required for BMET-I.
  • Exhibits a basic understanding and can communicate the use of devices supported.
  • Can provide basic support of acuity equipment for direct patient care.
  • Is familiar with the operations and environment that they support (hospital, clinic, etc.).
  • Has minimal experience in their assigned clinical environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • BS/AS Degree with 2 years experience working in Biomedical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, CMMS, and NJDOH standards.
  • Experience in a hospital or industrial environment with experience in hospital related equipment.
