The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) is seeking an IT Business Systems Analyst to support the State Crime Laboratory. This role is crucial in assisting forensic professionals and managing specialized software applications utilized by the Crime Laboratory. The IT Business Systems Analyst (BSA) will collaborate closely with the IT BSA Coordinator to enhance and manage laboratory business systems processes. This position involves writing queries, creating reports, and problem-solving in conjunction with laboratory staff, customer agencies, and application vendors. The BSA will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest quality of forensic science services, contributing to the safety of communities across Nebraska. In this position, the IT Business Systems Analyst will be responsible for developing automated system workflows that streamline business processes. The role requires proficiency in writing SQL queries and generating reports, as well as conducting system and user acceptance testing. The BSA will work strategically with Crime Laboratory leadership, end users, and vendors to identify software solutions for complex business processes related to laboratory operations. Additionally, the analyst will assess the potential impact of proposed legislation on processes, update current workflows in response to changing state statutes and federal regulations, and maximize the capabilities of existing software. The IT Business Systems Analyst will also be tasked with integrating system reporting, documenting business processes, and developing testing procedures for new or upgraded applications. Identifying workflow improvements and training staff on new technologies are essential components of this role. The analyst will assist in troubleshooting hardware and network issues and will perform other duties as assigned within the classification's scope. The primary software tools utilized in this position include Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Management Studio, Crystal Reports, Ideagen Quality Management, Porter Lee's BEAST LIMS, Visual Studio, Microsoft Project, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office 365, along with various specialized forensic applications. The BSA will ensure adherence to best practices, including criminal justice information security and NITC standards related to application development, while maintaining clear communication with supervisors, peers, and personnel in relevant NSP divisions and partner agencies.
