About the position

The IT Cybersecurity Specialist at the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is responsible for ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems and networks. This role involves planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining security programs and policies to protect against vulnerabilities and threats. The specialist will evaluate new systems, implement security measures, and ensure compliance with security policies across the bureau.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a wide range of assignments and projects related to information systems and cybersecurity matters.
  • Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data.
  • Plan, analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and enhance information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate security programs in assigned bureau/office.
  • Implement security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities.
  • Participate in the assessment of new systems design methodologies and perform implementation activities.
  • Institute measures to ensure awareness and compliance with security policies.
  • Identify and recommend changes based on new security technologies or threats.
  • Review and provide feedback on proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
  • Must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.
  • Must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in federal service, or a Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • For GS-11, one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in federal service, or a Ph.D. in a relevant field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in providing IT security leadership and policy implementation.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity information, awareness, planning, reporting, and compliance.
  • Experience in conducting IT security testing and Assessment and Authorization.
