About the position

The Data Architect, Senior at ETS plays a crucial role in shaping the architectural vision for data management across the organization. This position is responsible for conceptualizing and experimenting with various architectural approaches to enhance the strategic design and development of data architecture. The Data Architect will oversee how data is collected, stored, processed, integrated, cataloged, modeled, and utilized to empower business intelligence, advanced analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence initiatives. This role is pivotal in guiding data teams to align with the envisioned business and technology direction throughout the lifecycle of data initiatives. In this position, the Data Architect will articulate and document a comprehensive data architecture solution vision, ensuring that it meets the evolving needs of the organization. Responsibilities include overseeing data architecture designs, business requirements, prototypes, testing, and training. The architect will develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models while supporting the creation of data strategies through roadmaps and processes that address current and future needs. Additionally, the Data Architect will implement cloud data platforms that support product strategies and advanced analytics, providing a competitive edge to the organization. The role also involves making recommendations on innovative data platforms and tools, ensuring alignment with the organization's strategic data vision and compliance with industry standards and regulations. The Data Architect will maintain a repository of documentation related to data architecture standards and continuously evaluate opportunities for improvement. Staying current with emerging technologies is essential, as the architect will leverage industry knowledge to drive innovation in data architecture and related areas. Establishing and enforcing data quality standards and practices is also a key responsibility, ensuring that the organization adheres to ethical standards and complies with applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Articulate and document a data architecture solution vision.
  • Oversee data architecture designs, business requirements, prototypes, testing, and training.
  • Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models, and support the development of data strategies by building roadmaps and creating processes to meet current and future needs.
  • Develop data frameworks and scalable approaches to support an evolving data architecture and integration needs that can be leveraged and re-used for new data-driven business products, services, and functions.
  • Develop and implement cloud data platforms to support product strategy and roadmap, advanced analytics, data science and SQL/NO-SQL datasets to give business, products, and operations a competitive advantage.
  • Provide recommendations on innovative data platforms, tools and services, and align decision-making with the organization's strategic data vision and all standard policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Manage a repository of documentation related to data architecture standards, protocols, and frameworks, and regularly evaluate for improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain currency with emerging technologies, leveraging industry knowledge and expertise to drive continuous improvement and innovation efforts in data architecture and related areas.
  • Ensure data architecture and practices comply with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as GDPR, HIPPA, and CCPA.
  • Establish and enforce data quality standards and practices.
  • Continuously improve processes, technologies, and platforms to provide best value to business.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and comply with the laws and regulations applicable to your job function.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.
  • 8+ years in information technology, big data, data science, analytics platforms and/or higher education.
  • Minimum 3 years in Data Architecture or relevant field.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in database development, developing and delivering data architecture solutions and strategies.
  • Firm understanding of data modeling, master data management, enterprise data warehousing, ETL, reporting, querying, requirements analysis, and data integration techniques.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with network architecture, IT Architecture principles, frameworks, methodologies, standards and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and executive audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Adaptable and flexible in response to changing business needs and priorities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and data warehousing solutions (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server).
  • Experience with Pyspark framework building data lake (S3/Iceburg), data warehouse (on Redshift Serverless/Spectrum), EMR (serverless), pipelines & catalogs construction (Glue, Athena).
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB, Cassandra) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
  • Understanding of ETL processes and tools (e.g., Python).
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data security practices.
