The Application Database Administrator (DBA) is a vital member of the Enterprise Data Services (EDS) team within the Division of Information Technology (DIT) at the University of Maryland, College Park. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive database optimization and administration for enterprise-level, cross-campus services. The DBA will manage various database systems, including MSSQL, Postgres, Oracle, and Redshift, ensuring their health, performance, and security. This role requires a proactive approach to database management, including monitoring, backup and recovery, and SQL tuning to optimize database performance. In addition to database management, the DBA will analyze and guide customers in writing SQL, T-SQL, and PostgreSQL queries to meet application requirements. The position demands a commitment to providing 24/7 support for critical production systems, which includes performing scheduled maintenance and supporting release deployment activities outside of regular business hours. The DBA will also implement scripting and automation tasks using tools like SSIS, contributing to the efficiency of database operations. This position is considered essential, meaning the DBA may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during major catastrophic events, weather emergencies, or other operational emergencies to maintain continuity of University services. Being on call during certain periods is also a requirement of this role.
