About the position

The IT Database Admin Analyst III position at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is a full-time role focused on managing and optimizing database systems to ensure data security, integrity, and availability. This position is part of the Applications Development Team in Boise and offers a flexible hybrid work environment. The role requires strong interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to adapting to technological changes, with responsibilities including database design, performance tuning, and user support.

Responsibilities

  • Design and install large, complex database management systems.
  • Ensure the security, quality, and integrity of data resources.
  • Research opportunities to improve database technology standards and identify best practices.
  • Ensure effective management of assigned databases and associated applications to provide uninterrupted availability of information to users.
  • Design and implement procedures and controls necessary to protect information system data.
  • Provide guidance and direction for the effective and secure use of organizational data, including database performance tuning and storage forecasting.
  • Provide on-call support to production databases outside normal work hours.

Requirements

  • Experience installing, administering and monitoring production databases and database servers (minimum one year).
  • Experience monitoring and tuning the performance of databases, queries, and indexes (minimum one year).
  • Experience developing procedures and controls to ensure database security, integrity, and availability (minimum one year).
  • Experience resolving complex database problems (minimum two years or one year with level-three escalation tickets).
  • Experience training and mentoring staff on the effective and secure use of data (minimum one year).
  • Experience in database resource planning (minimum one year).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience as a SQL Server DBA in a Windows Server Environment (typically 5 years).
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO) of databases (typically 5 years).
  • Experience with backups, restores, recovery models including High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server (minimum 2 years).
  • Experience securing data at rest, masking data, and patching SQL databases (minimum 2 years).
  • Experience in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integrated Services (SSIS), Data Warehousing, and Azure SQL Database (minimum 2 years).
