About the position

The Database Administrator IV at Hackensack Meridian Health is responsible for providing comprehensive database administration for various platforms including Microsoft SQL Server, Epic Cache, and Oracle. This role involves managing complex database systems, ensuring high standards of operation, and mentoring less experienced staff. The position primarily focuses on Google Cloud Database services and requires a strong background in database management and problem resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of problems through to resolution over a wide variety of systems and technologies.
  • Ensure internal database systems are managed to the highest standard by following industry best practices.
  • Perform work with a high degree of latitude and handle the most complex issues.
  • Demonstrate problem management ownership and prevention of downtime.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and general oversight to less experienced staff in database design, administration, and modeling activities.
  • Consult with and advise senior management and multiple clients on high impact data or database management issues, influencing strategic direction.
  • Lead various large-scale or highly complex data/database management activities, including designing complex databases and developing management policies.
  • Actively contribute to the development of existing and new IT processes and procedures to enhance service transition and operation lifecycle stages.
  • Identify areas of improvement and take action to address service impacting issues.
  • Provide operational support for the Epic Cache/Oracle/Windows/SQL Server database environment.
  • Manage database backup/restores, daily checks, maintenance tasks, and build new database instances.
  • Investigate defects or problems, working with infrastructure and external vendors to identify solutions.
  • Follow Change Management procedures in installing, configuring, and supporting databases in Test and Production environments.
  • Ensure service uptime is prioritized and respond efficiently to faults, incidents, and problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology, Math, Computer Science, or related field.
  • A minimum of six years of experience in database administration.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, adaptable and flexible.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server Operating Systems Security concepts and technologies, including PCI & PHI understanding.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DBS, DHCP & DFS, and enterprise storage.
  • Understanding of network principles, protocols, and technologies.
  • Experience with Epic Cache, Cogito, Oracle, SQL, and other database technology platforms, including backup & recovery.

Nice-to-haves

  • Eight years of experience in database administration.
  • Prior healthcare experience.
