About the position

The IT Database Administrator at Cianbro is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining a robust data architecture that supports the company's growth and enables new business capabilities. This role involves collaboration with IT and business teams to address data-related challenges, implement data governance protocols, and ensure the performance and reliability of database systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to understand and define data-related problems and requirements.
  • Design and implement database structure, architecture, and platforms to support company needs.
  • Develop and refine standards, processes, procedures, and guidelines for database environments.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies in data management and warehousing.
  • Partner with internal teams to design data management and governance protocols.
  • Develop and implement data security policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate on data capture, validation, and structures for data quality.
  • Contribute to data standardization, strategy, governance, and change management.
  • Design, configure, implement, and maintain databases and supporting architecture.
  • Monitor database performance and conduct regular maintenance and optimization.
  • Manage the performance, availability, and reliability of critical data services.
  • Review and manage ETL processes for optimization and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain database backup and recovery strategies.
  • Identify and resolve database performance issues.
  • Conduct database capacity planning for future needs.
  • Implement and maintain database monitoring tools.
  • Participate in data mapping, integrations, and migrations.
  • Contribute to master data architecture and management.
  • Create and maintain documentation of data architecture and systems.
  • Generate reports on database performance, usage, and security compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in data science, software development, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 8+ years of work experience in related disciplines.
  • Deep understanding of data modeling, normalization, schema design, and enterprise data warehouse design.
  • Experience with database tuning, indexing, optimization, maintenance, and automation.
  • Proficiency in MS SQL Server, Oracle, Azure SQL and Data Lake, PL/SQL, T-SQL queries, Power BI, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, REST APIs.
  • Experience with enterprise database architecture design and data integrations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Helpful certifications include Microsoft SQL Server and Azure Data Lake.
