About the position

The IT Director I - Assistant Chief Information Officer is responsible for developing and implementing IT operational strategies that align with the goals of the South Carolina Department of Transportation. This role involves overseeing IT infrastructure management, service management, security compliance, and team leadership, ensuring high-quality IT services and continuous improvement within the agency's IT operations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement IT operational strategies that align with agency goals.
  • Collaborate with CIO and other IT managers to recommend technology solutions.
  • Plan and manage IT budgets, including forecasting and cost control.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure.
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and security of IT systems.
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts related to IT services.
  • Lead the IT operations team in delivering high-quality IT services.
  • Implement IT service management to standardize processes and improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with CISO to ensure compliance with policies and standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the IT operations team.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in IT operations.
  • Serve as a liaison between IT and agency business units.
  • Identify and manage risks related to IT operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, business administration, information technology, mathematics, statistics, management information science or a related field.
  • 7.5 years of experience in telecommunications, data processing, and/or information technology.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
