About the position

The Information Systems Technician I - Field Support position at the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State involves performing independent systems analysis on technical projects, assisting senior staff and users with problem resolutions, installations, maintenance, and monitoring/testing of various data processing hardware/software. The role requires a combination of technical skills and the ability to work independently in resolving system issues.

Responsibilities

• Perform independent systems analysis on technical problems such as networking and PCs.
• Install hardware and software under the guidance of senior staff.
• Perform complex program testing and debugging.
• Receive inquiries dispatched by the Help Desk regarding system problems and determine the nature and extent of issues.
• Take necessary corrective actions to resolve terminal, circuit, and network malfunctions, both hardware and software.
• Monitor and test equipment including modems, PCs, printers, terminals, keyboards, CPUs, and cables.
• Assist senior staff with the installation of PCs and dial-up modems for necessary computer access.
• Install equipment received from vendor depot repairs and from the Help Desk.
• Forward information to Property Control and the Equipment Control Officer regarding installation, relocation, and/or removal of terminals and minicomputers.
• Prepare and install cables for computer and terminal installation and assist maintenance vendors in resetting computer equipment.
• Travel as necessary for education, meetings, site surveys, or actual installation or relocation of terminals and mini-computers.
• Act independently in response to unplanned hardware or software failures.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of one year of college with Computer Science coursework or one and one-half (1.5) years of technical systems and/or programming experience.
• Ability to lift, carry, and push/pull up to 50 lbs.
• Possession of a valid Illinois Driver's License.
