About the position

The IT Field Support Technician role is a critical position within Tesla's IT Operations, primarily focused on supporting the remote environment across North America. This role serves as the primary contact for Tesla's remote employee base, ensuring that their IT needs are met efficiently and effectively. The technician will be responsible for coordinating multiple projects, addressing day-to-day incidents, and managing outages related to network infrastructure. The position requires both onsite and remote troubleshooting capabilities, allowing the technician to work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate should possess a strong passion for technology and have experience in a fast-paced corporate environment. The role is based in Fremont, California, with some travel required to Tesla's remote sites across North America. In this position, the technician will deploy and support various endpoint systems, including desktop and laptop hardware, POS terminals, tablets, digital signage, printers, scanners, and telephony devices. Daily responsibilities include responding to requests and incidents from remote employees, proactively ensuring high levels of systems and infrastructure availability, and diagnosing site network infrastructure issues to prevent service disruptions. The technician will collaborate closely with multiple IT Operations teams to resolve issues and deploy equipment into the production environment. Understanding project requirements and developing project plans to deliver on time through collaboration with different teams within Tesla is also a key aspect of this role. Some planned travel to and from remote sites across regions will be necessary, with occasional short-notice travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and support various endpoint systems including desktop/laptop hardware, POS terminals, tablets, digital signage, printers, scanners, and telephony devices.
  • Respond to requests and incidents from remote employees daily.
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability in remote environments.
  • Diagnose site network infrastructure issues and address them in advance of service disruptions.
  • Work closely with multiple IT Operations teams to resolve issues and deploy equipment into the production environment.
  • Understand project requirements and develop project plans to deliver on time through collaboration with different teams within Tesla.
  • Travel to and from remote sites across regions, with occasional short-notice travel required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Networking, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years' experience with desktop (Windows, macOS, & Linux), infrastructure, network, and software support.
  • Support experience with IPSec, SD-WAN, fiber, coaxial, and Cellular modem networks with the ability to log level 1 technical support tickets with service providers.
  • Excellent understanding of networking components and technologies, including routers, firewalls, switches, access points, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ARP, OSI model.
  • Experience with Active Directory, JAMF, SCCM, Azure and Windows server environments.
  • Experience in supporting Apple and Android mobile devices along with Intune MDM.
  • PowerShell or Python experience is a plus.
