About the position

The IT Field Support Technician role at Tesla is a critical position within the IT Operations team, serving as the primary contact for employees seeking technical assistance. This position is based in Fremont, California, and involves close collaboration with the user base and various IT staff to manage multiple projects and ensure that day-to-day incidents are addressed promptly. The technician will be responsible for onsite troubleshooting and must possess the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. A strong passion for technology and experience in a fast-paced corporate environment are essential for success in this role. In this position, the technician will deploy and support a variety of endpoint systems, including desktop and laptop hardware, POS terminals, tablets, digital signage, printers, scanners, and telephony devices. Daily responsibilities include responding to requests and incidents from employees, proactively ensuring high levels of systems and infrastructure availability in remote environments, and diagnosing site network infrastructure issues to prevent service disruptions. The technician will work closely with multiple IT Operations teams to resolve issues and deploy equipment into the production environment, while also understanding project requirements and developing project plans to ensure timely delivery through collaboration with different teams within Tesla. The role may require some planned travel to remote sites across North America, with occasional short-notice travel as needed. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Networking, Information Systems, or equivalent experience, along with a minimum of five years' experience in desktop, infrastructure, network, and software support. Knowledge of various networking components and technologies, as well as experience with mobile device management, is also crucial for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and support various endpoint systems including desktop/laptop hardware, POS terminals, tablets, digital signage, printers, scanners, and telephony devices.
  • Respond to requests and incidents from employees daily.
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability in remote environments.
  • Diagnose site network infrastructure issues and address them in advance of service disruptions.
  • Work closely with multiple IT Operations teams to resolve issues and deploy equipment into the production environment.
  • Understand project requirements and develop project plans to deliver on time through collaboration with different teams within Tesla.
  • Travel to and from remote sites across regions, with occasional short-notice travel required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Networking, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years' experience with desktop (Windows, macOS, & Linux), infrastructure, network, and software support.
  • Support experience with IPSec, SD-WAN, fiber, coaxial, and Cellular modem networks with the ability to log level 1 technical support tickets with service providers.
  • Excellent understanding of networking components and technologies, including routers, firewalls, switches, access points, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, ARP, OSI model.
  • Experience with Active Directory, JAMF, SCCM, Azure and Windows server environments.
  • Experience in supporting Apple and Android mobile devices along with Intune MDM.
  • PowerShell or Python experience is a plus.
