About the position

St. Francis Ministries is seeking a highly motivated IT Field Technician to work in our hybrid work environment. The primary responsibility of the IT Field Technician is to support the configuration, hardware/software support, and maintenance of our clients' computer or computer-related equipment and components. This role involves performing installations and configurations of new IT hardware, including break-fix and new hardware requests, as well as the deployment of new facilities. The technician will also be responsible for the decommissioning and removal of retired IT assets, ensuring that all processes are documented and tracked accurately using the IT ticketing system. In this position, the technician will utilize an asset management system to maintain accurate IT inventory and tracking. They will work closely with third-party vendors to address technical needs, including cabling, carrier network connectivity, VoIP, and copier/printer services at both new and existing locations. Troubleshooting is a key aspect of this role, as the technician will be required to resolve desktop and network issues to restore service, as well as perform virus and malware removal. The technician must have a strong understanding of software and operating systems, and be able to install software, modify settings, and replace hardware as required to resolve incidents. The IT Field Technician will also be responsible for making updates to the knowledge base by creating documentation that describes issues encountered and their resolutions. This role requires a commitment to continuous learning, as the technician will participate in a minimum of 40 hours of in-service education per year to stay current with industry best practices and technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform installation and configuration of new IT hardware including break-fix and new hardware requests.
  • Decommission and remove retired IT assets.
  • Utilize asset management system to maintain accurate IT inventory and tracking.
  • Document, track, and monitor issues and tasks using the IT ticketing system.
  • Work with third-party vendors to address technical needs including cabling, carrier network connectivity, VoIP, and copier/printer services.
  • Troubleshoot computer workstation hardware including peripherals.
  • Install software, modify settings, and replace hardware as required to resolve incidents.
  • Resolve desktop and network issues to restore service.
  • Ensure troubleshooting and resolutions are accomplished using industry best practices.
  • Make updates to the knowledge base by creating documentation describing issues encountered and their resolutions.
  • Call clients' vendors for warranty and troubleshooting issues.
  • Remove viruses/malware.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must pass a drug screen and TB Skin Test.
  • FBI Fingerprint Check.
  • Submit to a Criminal History and DFPS History Check.
  • Pass a Centralized Background Check through the Texas Health and Human Services Eligibility.
  • Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Lifting requirements of 50 lbs.
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent certificate.
  • CompTIA A+ certification.
  • CompTIA Network + certification highly preferred.
  • CCNA highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years or combination of education and experience in IT roles such as helpdesk and field support, installation, termination, and testing of network cabling.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with various mobile devices (iOS, Android).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows file sharing and permissions.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and other server technologies.
  • Hardware experience with peripherals, scanners, and mass storage devices.
  • Advanced knowledge of small and medium business LAN and WAN network technologies such as routers, firewalls, switches, wireless access points, VPN, NAS, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Experience documenting problem and resolution of support calls as well as maintaining a knowledge base of processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of telecom connectivity and low voltage cabling.
  • Familiarity with network concepts including physical connectivity, wireless, and TCP/IP configuration.
