As an IT Finance and HR Planning Analyst Intern at FirstEnergy, you will be immersed in a professional development program designed to cultivate your skills while performing meaningful work. This internship is not just about observation; you will actively contribute to the team, engaging in the same tasks as full-time employees. Over the course of 14 weeks, you will receive comprehensive on-the-job training, challenging assignments, and support from a Supervisor, a Coach/Mentor, and a dedicated IT Intern Program Coordinator. This structure is aimed at maximizing your learning and growth throughout the summer and beyond. The primary objective of this role is to familiarize yourself with the fundamental business practices involved in planning, maintaining, and analyzing IT financials. Key responsibilities will include tracking month-end accruals and journals, assisting leadership with project budgets, preparing for both short and long-term financial forecasts, coordinating resources to align labor hours, and maintaining employee staffing. You will also engage in business process understanding, application installation and configuration, project management, unit testing, and troubleshooting, all of which are essential for providing high-quality support for our systems and their related interfaces. In this role, you will support the planning of IT forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis reporting processes for an annual IT budget exceeding $200 million. You will utilize various financial systems to extract and manipulate data, creating meaningful financial reports. Additionally, you will assist with month-end financial reporting and variance analysis, learn the components of planning and reporting processes, and understand the strategy behind investigating and correcting financial inaccuracies within cost collectors or general ledger accounts. Your responsibilities will also include reinforcing tasks associated with the cost collector lifecycle, learning accounting concepts, and assisting with various ad-hoc reporting requests. You will be expected to demonstrate professionalism while providing customer service to IT leadership and collaborating with other departments within IT, accounting, and finance.
