About the position

The IT Financial Services Analyst position at the City of Durham focuses on providing management analysis and oversight for departmental budgets, personnel management, and program administration. This role involves conducting financial analysis, preparing reports, managing programs, and consulting with management to enhance operational processes and ensure effective budget adherence. The analyst will also serve as a liaison to other departments and external customers, contributing to strategic planning and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis, including forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Assist in annual budget preparation and regularly monitor budget adherence, identifying areas of cost optimization for procurement.
  • Develop financial models, budgetary forecasts, and IT contracts to govern fiscal performance, business operations, and compliance requirements.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the department's financial health and performance.
  • Analyze market trends to provide recommendations that support the effective management of IT assets through their respective portfolio aligned maintenance plans.
  • Identify financial risks and recommend strategies for risk mitigation to optimize financial stability.
  • Prepare and present clear and concise financial reports to senior management, offering insights into financial trends and opportunities for improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent, in business accounting, Finance, or directly related field
  • Two years of professional experience in accounting/financial management or closely related field
  • Proficient skills in MS Office applications (ex. PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient in data analytics.
  • Experience in organizational budget monitoring and analysis.
  • Experience utilizing enterprise ERP systems.
