About the position

The IT Functional Analyst II - Workday Student position at the University of Rochester is a full-time role focused on supporting the university's Workday-based Student Information System, particularly in the area of Student Finance. This position requires close collaboration with the Registrar and Bursar's Offices to ensure the accuracy of student charges, compliance with regulations, and enhancement of the student user experience. The analyst will be responsible for developing requirements and design documentation based on user input, creating use cases, and designing workflows and business processes. Additionally, the role involves application configuration and development, as well as creating testing strategies to ensure quality application maintenance and upgrades are delivered effectively. In this role, the analyst will work with user communities to document business requirements and translate them into configurable software components. They may lead teams in completing application configuration or development deliverables and participate in user community events to promote project goals and conduct training. The analyst will also provide business analysis and support services for both non-production and production environments, addressing end-user requests for support, troubleshooting issues, and serving as an escalation point for complex problems. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying improvement opportunities and best practices, as well as sharing knowledge and providing cross-training to peers. The analyst will maintain a deep understanding of the assigned functional area, university policies, and relevant regulations, and will participate in external communities of practice to enhance their functional knowledge. Other duties may be assigned as needed, making this a dynamic and engaging role within the university's IT department.

Responsibilities

  • Support the University of Rochester's Workday based Student Information System with a focus on Student Finance.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar and Bursar's Offices to ensure accuracy of student charges and compliance with regulations.
  • Develop requirements and design documentation based on user input, including use cases.
  • Design workflows and business processes, complete application configuration/development, and create testing strategies.
  • Lead user communities and support team members in understanding and documenting business requirements.
  • Translate requirements into configurable software components and rules to solve complex business problems.
  • Complete assigned application configuration or development deliverables and lead teams in testing.
  • Participate in user community events to promote project goals and conduct training.
  • Provide business analysis and support services for non-production and production environments.
  • Answer end user requests for support, troubleshoot issues, and serve as an escalation point for complex problems.
  • Work with technical and functional personnel to fulfill requests for support services.
  • Participate in team retrospective events with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Identify and recommend improvement opportunities and best practices.
  • Share knowledge and provide cross-training to peers.
  • Participate in the estimation and planning of future work plans and development of Business Continuity Plans/Procedures.
  • Lead coordination of communications to the user community regarding business processes and supporting documentation.
  • Develop procedures to maintain applications, programs, and systems.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in related discipline required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1 year of relevant experience required; equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
  • Experience in higher education, medical, technical, or healthcare setting preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and follow-up skills required.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft Office and collaboration tools required.
  • Experience with project management methodologies, including Agile, required.
  • Ability to provide after-hours on-call support required.
  • Familiarity with Meaningful Use (ARRA), HIPAA, JCAHO, and other regulations preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education field, medical, technical or healthcare setting preferred.
