About the position

The IT Generalist II position involves providing comprehensive onsite and remote IT support services, including the installation and maintenance of computer hardware, peripherals, audio/video, and networking equipment. The role requires planning and implementing necessary hardware and software changes for various offices and centers, supporting faculty and staff in equipment selection, and managing security assessments. Additionally, the position includes analyzing and resolving networking issues, developing training programs, and staying updated with emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite and remote IT support services.
  • Install and maintain computer hardware, peripherals, audio/video, and networking equipment.
  • Plan and implement necessary computer hardware and software changes for UF/IFAS Extension offices and Research and Education Centers.
  • Support faculty and staff in evaluating and selecting equipment and software.
  • Coordinate hardware and software testing, including managing complex applications and equipment.
  • Initiate security risk assessments for hardware and software in compliance with University and UF/IFAS policy.
  • Maintain UF Active Directory configuration and organizational units for North Florida Research and Education Center and County Extension Offices.
  • Analyze and resolve problems with local area networking (LAN) and wide-area networking (WAN).
  • Participate in the design and implementation of LAN and WAN upgrades and problem resolutions.
  • Develop and conduct training programs for faculty and staff to increase IT skills.
  • Stay current with emerging technology and industry trends.
  • Support District and State goal and focus teams through participation in planning and strategy meetings.
  • Participate in UF and UF/IFAS computer support groups, sharing knowledge and techniques.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced-level technical knowledge of client systems, Microsoft Windows, macOS, various client software applications and management tools.
  • Intermediate-level technical knowledge of internet connectivity and networking systems installation and troubleshooting.
  • Intermediate-level technical knowledge of classroom and conference room multimedia and audio/video (A/V) solutions.
  • Intermediate-level technical knowledge of offered cloud services.
  • Technical training and documentation experience.
  • Excellent English language and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service abilities.
  • Critical thinker and self-motivated professional.

  • Experience supporting users with varying levels of IT knowledge and experience.
