About the position

Vala Sciences, Inc. is a pioneering biotechnology firm located in San Diego, California, dedicated to developing high-speed video microscopy instruments for single-cell analyses. We are currently seeking candidates for the position of IT Help Desk Technician, available for both part-time and full-time employment. This role is essential in supporting our engineering team and ensuring the smooth operation of our IT infrastructure. The IT Help Desk Technician will be responsible for setting up computers, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and managing network access and user accounts. This position offers opportunities to contribute to advanced projects within the engineering team and to learn additional skills in a dynamic environment. The IT Help Desk Technician will engage in various responsibilities, including setting up routers and physical network hardware, managing data backups, and overseeing building security systems. Additionally, there is an optional opportunity to assist the engineering team with the manufacture and testing of our Kinetic Image Cytometer (KIC®) and to provide technical support to external customers. This role is ideal for individuals looking to grow their technical skills while contributing to innovative projects in the biotechnology sector.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up computers and troubleshooting issues, including installing hardware and software/drivers, booting/shutdown issues, and printing.
  • Setting up routers, ethernet cabling, and other physical network hardware.
  • Managing network access, service, and anti-virus.
  • Managing user accounts and computers using Windows Active Directory.
  • Managing user accounts, groups, and devices using Google Workspace.
  • Managing automated and manual backups of computers and documents.
  • Managing data stored on AWS.
  • Managing building security alarms and HVAC settings, as well as onsite equipment monitoring alarms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Knowledge of Windows operating systems (Windows 7/10/11, Windows Server 2012).
  • Knowledge of MacOS.
  • Competency in using common office environment programs, such as MS Office and Google Workspace.
  • Knowledge of command-line scripting.
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environments to meet production schedules.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with help desk support (1 year preferred).
  • Experience with Windows (1 year preferred).
