About the position

The Head Cook at Cocopah Bend RV/Golf Resort plays a crucial role in delivering an exceptional food service experience for guests under the supervision of the Activities Director and Operations Manager. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring high-quality food preparation and maintaining a safe and clean kitchen environment. The Head Cook is tasked with overseeing the kitchen staff, ensuring that all food orders are prepared according to established food safety guidelines, and that the kitchen is kept in an orderly and sanitary condition. This role requires a proactive approach to safety, including the immediate correction of any potential hazards such as wet floors or open oven doors. In collaboration with the Food and Beverage Manager and Activities Director, the Head Cook will also be involved in maintaining inventory levels necessary for food service, planning menus, scheduling, and ordering supplies for the restaurant, banquets, and special food events. Training of kitchen staff in safe equipment operation and proper maintenance is also a key responsibility. The Head Cook must be adaptable and ready to take on additional duties as assigned, ensuring that the kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently. This position requires a strong knowledge of advanced food preparation techniques and the safe operation of various kitchen equipment, including grills, fryers, ovens, and slicers. The ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, is essential. Given the physical demands of the role, including standing for long periods and lifting heavy objects, the Head Cook must be in good physical health. The position requires a commitment to working weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed, reflecting the dynamic nature of the food service industry.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare all food orders in a high-quality manner using established food safety guidelines.
  • Maintain the kitchen, including individual work stations, in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
  • Make work assignments and direct staff as appropriate.
  • Monitor for safety issues such as wet floors, open oven doors, and hot items, correcting them immediately.
  • Collaborate with the Food and Beverage Manager and Activities Director to maintain established inventory levels necessary for food service.
  • Assist in scheduling, planning menus, and ordering supplies for the restaurant, banquets, and special food events.
  • Train employees on safe equipment operation and proper maintenance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Food handler's certification required.
  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a high-volume restaurant/kitchen environment.
  • At least two (2) years' experience in a supervisory position.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently.
  • Knowledge of advanced food preparation techniques.
  • Knowledge and safe operation of kitchen equipment.
