About the position

The IT Helpdesk Computer Assistant position at Onondaga Community College is a Federal Work Study (FWS) role primarily located in Coulter Library (Coulter Hall C240). This position is designed for students who are eligible for work-study funding and are in good academic standing, specifically those maintaining a GPA of 2.0 or higher. The primary responsibility of the IT Helpdesk Computer Assistant is to assist fellow students with various technology-related issues and questions. This includes helping students connect to the OCC-Public wireless network, navigating the D2L-Brightspace platform, utilizing the MS Office suite, and managing their MyOCC and Student Planning accounts. The role also involves providing support for general OCC-related technology inquiries, ensuring that students can effectively use the resources available to them. In addition to direct student support, IT Helpdesk Computer Assistants are responsible for monitoring equipment within the library, performing general housekeeping duties, and completing other tasks as assigned. This may include receiving training to perform library-related duties, thereby broadening the scope of their responsibilities and enhancing their skills in a library setting. The position is structured to allow for a maximum of 20 hours of work per week while classes are in session, with the possibility of additional hours during college breaks. This role not only provides valuable work experience but also contributes to the overall educational environment at Onondaga Community College, fostering a supportive community for students.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with connecting to the OCC-Public wireless network.
  • Provide support for D2L-Brightspace navigation.
  • Help students utilize the MS Office suite effectively.

  • Address general OCC-related technology issues and questions.
  • Monitor equipment in the library and perform general housekeeping duties.

Requirements

  • Must be a Work-Study Eligible Student in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher).
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to people.
  • Demonstrated clerical and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact well with students on a one-to-one basis, helping them to get started, answering questions, and resolving issues.

Benefits

  • Pay Rate: $15.00 /hr
  • Opportunity to work up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session.
