About the position

The IT Infrastructure Support Analyst position at the State of Nebraska involves performing a variety of tasks related to information technology under limited supervision. The role encompasses hardware and software support, network support, systems administration, research, procurement, and training. The analyst will be responsible for assembling and testing equipment, repairing hardware, performing preventative maintenance, and providing user support for various software and hardware issues. Additionally, the analyst will oversee hardware and software installations, manage agency inventory, and troubleshoot communication problems. In terms of system administration, the analyst will handle system backups, maintain user IDs and authorizations, and monitor system performance. They will also be involved in installing server hardware and software, managing disk space, and distributing client software via the network. Research responsibilities include providing technical product research upon request and testing new hardware and software for potential deployment. Procurement duties involve monitoring purchase orders, evaluating vendor performance, and maintaining contact with vendors for active orders. Training is another key aspect of this role, where the analyst will provide informal training for small groups and recommend training topics. The analyst will also serve as a liaison with hardware maintenance vendors, collect and summarize network operation data, and provide on-call support during off hours. Overall, this position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and test equipment including peripherals
  • Repair equipment and perform preventative maintenance
  • Determine hardware/software configuration requirements to satisfy client needs
  • Resolve hardware/software problems and oversee installations
  • Manage agency hardware/software inventory and provide client assistance
  • Install, maintain, and repair cabling and network components
  • Monitor network performance and act as vendor contact for maintenance/repair
  • Perform system backups and maintain user IDs and authorizations
  • Monitor system performance and manage system disk space
  • Provide research on technical products and test new hardware/software
  • Receive ordered software and monitor outstanding purchase orders
  • Provide informal training for small groups and recommend training topics
  • Act as a liaison with hardware maintenance vendors and provide on-call support.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in computer science and two years of related technical and business experience
  • Post high school coursework in computer science and three years of related technical and business experience
  • Knowledge of network planning, design, and evaluation
  • Understanding of computer systems facilities support design and evaluation
  • Familiarity with operational needs regarding datacommunications, computer hardware, and software
  • Ability to communicate information effectively in various formats
  • Skill in troubleshooting and developing solutions to problems
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with network application interfaces
