About the position

The Computer Support Technician at SMS will provide essential technical support to the 688th CW at Lackland AFB, ensuring the operational efficiency of IT services across multiple facilities. This role involves troubleshooting hardware and software issues, maintaining network systems, and ensuring compliance with security protocols. The technician will work closely with customers and various entities to resolve technical problems and support the mission of delivering integrated information operations and engineering capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support to customers to ensure proper functional use of equipment and programs.
  • Troubleshoots various computer and network related issues in coordination with the base Communications Squadron and other entities.
  • Works with customers to resolve issues associated with a variety of different system problems.
  • Performs scans of desktop computers and reports incidents as required; ensures virus protection and security patches are properly installed.
  • Utilizes full administrative rights to install software updates/patches.
  • Provides Video Teleconference (VTC) and wireless phone troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Monitors ongoing operation of network systems to ensure hardware and software are functioning properly and operational standards are met.
  • Sets up and maintains user permissions and accounts; installs software on client desktop computers.
  • Utilizes established computer techniques to identify and promptly resolve network-related problems within the organization.
  • Installs and troubleshoots software on desktops and laptops to include Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) and government developed applications/systems.
  • Identifies and refers corrective action to be taken for individual job failures not covered by standard procedures.
  • Assists in solving problems associated with delivery of hardware and software orders.
  • Provides management with information necessary to address difficult and moderately complex problems in automating work processes.
  • Ensures Time Compliance Network Orders (TCNO) are implemented within the required time-frame and complies with the vulnerability and incident reporting procedures.
  • Attends all installation Communications Squadron CSA meetings and completes training as required.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience in supporting IT infrastructure and systems.
  • DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Certification 8140 compliance (CompTIA Security +CE).
