About the position

The IT Manager I - Project Manager position at the South Carolina Department of Transportation involves assisting the PMO Director in the successful implementation of various information technology projects. This role is crucial in evaluating, recommending, planning, implementing, documenting, and coordinating the deployment of IT solutions across the agency. The IT Manager will be responsible for coordinating communications and providing technical direction between SCDOT departments, their end users, and outside consultants, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and informed throughout the project lifecycle. In addition to project implementation, the IT Manager will develop strategic plans and directions related to technology projects. This includes establishing project best practices, leveraging innovative technologies for project collaboration and communication, and creating tools for project tracking and reporting. The role also involves assisting the PMO Director in developing and deploying project management standards within an enterprise IT environment. The IT Manager may be required to perform other related duties as assigned, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the department's IT initiatives. The position requires a proactive approach to managing projects and a strong understanding of the technical aspects of information technology. The IT Manager will play a key role in ensuring that projects are completed on time, within scope, and in alignment with the agency's strategic goals. This position may also involve occasional overnight travel for project-related activities, attendance at industry conferences, or coordination meetings with other state transportation agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the PMO Director with the successful implementation of information technology projects.
  • Evaluate, recommend, plan, implement, document, and coordinate the deployment of IT solutions.
  • Coordinate communications and technical directions between SCDOT departments, their end users, and outside consultants related to IT projects.
  • Develop strategic plans and directions related to technology projects, including project best practices.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in communications, business administration, information technology, mathematics, statistics, management information science or a related field.
  • Three and one-half (3.5) years of experience in telecommunications, data processing and/or information technology.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
