About the position

The Software Engineering Manager at Marathon Petroleum Company is responsible for leading and managing a team of software engineers and DevSecOps engineers. This role focuses on developing people and processes to deliver innovative, secure, and high-quality software solutions that support the Midstream business. The manager will be hands-on, ensuring successful design, development, testing, and maintenance of software products while fostering collaboration across various teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate to create a Solution Delivery organizational vision and strategic direction.
  • Oversee, lead, and provide coaching and mentoring for Software and DevSecOps Engineers.
  • Ensure delivered solutions adhere to software architecture strategy and coding standards.
  • Maintain visibility and support operations of the DevSecOps platforms, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Participate in software architectural discussions and influence decisions.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to guide the design and management of DevSecOps capabilities.
  • Identify and select appropriate tools for implementing and managing the DevSecOps toolchain.
  • Streamline deployment processes and adopt best practices in CI/CD.
  • Facilitate communication around architecture, design, and implementation objectives.
  • Maintain a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Develop strong business cases for technology initiatives and assist in budget management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of diversified IT experience.
  • 3+ years of experience leading professional staff.
  • Strong understanding of software development design and Agile practices/methodologies.
  • Excellent knowledge of software reliability best practices and automated testing.
  • Proficiency in C++, C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, Blazor, ReactJS, or Angular.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools.
  • Experience in migrating monolithic architectures to modern technology stacks.
  • Experience developing cloud-native solutions, particularly in Azure.

  • Background and experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Experience in building APIs for internal and external products.
