About the position

The IT & Media Support Specialist will provide comprehensive audio/visual and technology-related support to faculty, students, and staff at Drexel University's University City and Center City campuses. This role requires the specialist to operate independently, assessing the nature of various technology-related issues and collaborating with end-users to find effective solutions. The specialist will be responsible for ensuring that classroom technology is functioning optimally, which includes troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise during instructional activities. The position demands a proactive approach to identifying user needs and researching appropriate solutions, often without predefined guidelines. In addition to direct support, the specialist will engage in the design and enhancement of classroom technology, working closely with faculty and multimedia technology colleagues. This includes evaluating current technology needs, testing new applications and hardware, and recommending improvements to enhance the teaching and learning experience. The specialist will also be tasked with documenting findings and sharing insights with the team to foster a collaborative environment focused on continuous improvement. The role requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge in the field of multimedia production and information technology, ensuring compliance with system security protocols and confidentiality standards. The specialist will also be responsible for authoring metrics to evaluate the adoption of classroom technology and the requirements of end-users, contributing to the overall effectiveness of the educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-campus audio/visual and technology-related support to faculty, students, and staff at both intermediate and advanced levels.
  • Collaborate with faculty and multimedia technology colleagues to monitor, design, and evaluate classroom technology needs.
  • Participate in designing and upgrading classroom and other learning space technology.
  • Discover, vet, and test emerging applications and hardware solutions associated with classroom and multimedia technologies.
  • Identify user needs and independently research procedures for addressing technology-related challenges.
  • Provide telephone, in-person, and email support for successful use of classroom audio/video instructional technology.
  • Resolve classroom end-user technology issues with timely and creative solutions.
  • Author metrics for evaluating classroom technology adoption and end-user requirements.
  • Maintain currency in the field of expertise, including system and data security and end-user confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Multimedia Production, Digital Media, or Information Technology.
  • Five to seven years of experience in a related field.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve classroom audio/video support problems.
  • Knowledge of AV distribution and setup, along with operation of various AV delivery modalities.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and end-user clients.
  • Ability to research and stay current with industry publications and technology solutions.
