About the position

The IT Network Engineer position at NHEC is responsible for delivering secure and reliable network infrastructure to support various workflows within the organization. Reporting to the IT Network Operations Manager, the engineer will install, configure, secure, and maintain both LAN and WAN networks, ensuring efficient communication and functionality across the company. This role involves collaboration with Systems Engineering and Information Security teams to uphold security standards and best practices in network management.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, secure, and maintain LAN and WAN IT and OT networks.
  • Work with Systems Engineering and Information Security teams to ensure secure and efficient functionality.
  • Install, configure, and maintain office equipment including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Install, configure, and maintain office wireless network infrastructure.
  • Configure and maintain remote access and site-to-site VPN connectivity.
  • Configure and maintain voice-over-IP (VOIP) systems.
  • Proactively monitor and troubleshoot networking availability and performance.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of network equipment, connections, circuits, and locations.
  • Promote and adhere to industry best practices for data center management.
  • Document, maintain, and evaluate the efficiency of IT operations through automation and orchestration.
  • Support the Service Desk by providing 2nd level technical support and coordinating 3rd level technical support with vendors.
  • Ensure network equipment configuration adheres to NHEC adopted and regulatory mandated security controls.
  • Expand personal knowledge and skills of networking and security best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related IT field preferred plus 3 years of experience in network engineering or 7 years equivalent experience in lieu of bachelor's degree.
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with enterprise, operational (ICS), and broadband network technologies preferred.
  • Proficient in network concepts and protocols including BGP, IP routing, NAT/CGNAT, VLAN, PON, and HA.
  • Working knowledge of systems concepts and protocols including virtualization, backup and recovery, cloud services, IAM, and security.
  • Experience creating physical, logical and flow diagrams in Microsoft Visio.
  • Attention to detail in planning and execution of IT projects and changes.
