About the position

The IT/Network Specialist at General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) plays a crucial role in supporting the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) by managing and optimizing network systems, software, and hardware. This position involves troubleshooting technical issues, training users, and ensuring data integrity and system performance. The specialist will also contribute to the development of performance specifications for UAS detection and mitigation technologies, making a significant impact on aviation safety and technology advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine technical support in the management of networks, software, hardware, configurations, and architectures.
  • Troubleshoot system hardware and software issues.
  • Train end users on the proper use of hardware and software.
  • Perform basic software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
  • Monitor and tune systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
  • Ensure workstation/server data integrity by implementing standard software and hardware solutions.
  • Ensure data/media recoverability by following a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.
  • Conduct basic hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
  • Ensure that performance and security of computers meet the needs of network users.
  • Evaluate existing systems and assist with planning long-term strategies.

Requirements

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience, with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid US Passport.
  • Expertise in compiling, arranging, storing, and retrieval of information to facilitate support of the FAA customer, project, or program.
  • Experience administering, evaluating, installing, maintaining, and providing overall support for LANs and WANs.
  • Ability to present technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-starter with strong collaboration skills.

  • Proficiency using MS Excel formulas or tools like JMP for statistical analysis and data visualization.
